About Jack

I have always been a very active person and have been involved in wheelchair sport since the age of 9. Before rugby, I had played wheelchair basketball and racing. Sport has always been one of the most integral aspects of my life and enjoy it more than anything. I am heavily interested in football and always wanted to play it growing up, but due to being born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus I realised that wasn’t possible, as my ability to walk would decrease as I grew older and taller. I gave wheelchair basketball and athletics a go, and played the former for around 8 years. However, it required a set of skills that due to my hydrocephalus, I struggled to possess.

I then gave up sport for a while, having quit wheelchair athletics too. During this period of time of doing quite little with my life, I struggled mentally quite a lot. My anxiety had shot right up and that feeling of a lack of purpose only got worse and my fitness deteriorated completely.

It was a few years later, in 2018 where I started playing wheelchair rugby and started being a member of this brilliant team and group of people. I was welcomed into an atmosphere where I felt I belonged. I have never met a group of people where I felt I fitted in so well. Everyone at the club was, and is welcoming, friendly, supportive yet push each other. The coaches strive to push us to our maximum potential, as well as us athletes having the same affect on each other.

Having been surrounded by those who feel in some ways superior to me nearly my whole life, be that in education or in previous sporting experiences, I genuinely feel like I am an equal to everyone at the team and I struggle to portray just how much being around this club and group of people has transformed my life. It has helped my mental health, physical health, social skills, self confidence and esteem, my communicational skills among so many other things. Being able to play under the brand of Saracens is also such an honor and I feel immensely lucky to play for this team. Thanks to this club, and this family of players, staff and others I feel so much happier with my life now than when I started.
In 2023 Jack was awarded the SWRC Players’ Player of the Year Award.

In July 2024 Jack received the Commemorative 50th Honour Cap from Saracens Wheelchair Rugby Club, which was presented by the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire.
